Images have been leaked showing the design of Apple’s next iPhone, which everyone in the techy world are pretty sure is going to be called the iPhone 5se. But it should probably be called the iPhone 5 Essentials because it’s essentially a budget iPhone. It seems the 5se will replace the 5s, and it will be the same size and shape but with some minor design changes. Designs obtained by 9to5Mac suggest that the lock button will be moved to the right-hand side of the device – like on the iPhone 6. So all iPhone 5 users will still have to make that awkward transition from pressing the top of the phone, to pressing the side.
Here’s a clue, pretty much the same as every other iPhone basically ever. Were we really expecting anything else? However, conflicting sources have images of the prototype that show the button remaining on the top – so the stubborn top-button people would be safe! According to the Mirror, other leaks suggest it will take some design queues from the iPhone 6 range – with curved glass edges and a ‘Touch ID’ fingerprint reader. Other rumoured features include an 8-megapixel rear camera and 1.2-megapixel front camera, support for Live Photos and Apple Pay, and the same colour options as the 6s lineup. Rumours are that Apple will break out of it’s traditional September launch schedule, and release this new lower-level model this spring. A recent report in 9to5Mac claims that the new iPhone will be unveiled at an event on March 15th, alongside the iPad Air 3 and Apple Watch 2. It looks like it will be sold alongside the iPhone 6 range but will be much cheaper, at a cost of around £275 ($450). The new iPhone 7 should be released in September.
