It's only been seven months since Apple rolled out tvOS but the software is getting a series of minor updates. At its annual Worldwide Developer Conference, Apple's Eddy Cue revealed that Minecraft Story Mode, Sling, Fox Go and Molotov are all either available from today, or will be coming to tvOS over the coming months. Sling offers a selection of live cable channels and is available from today, Fox Sports Go - which shows four games on one screen - is coming this summer, and Molotov, the French service that offers 100 live channels and on-demand content, will launch on the platform next month. Minecraft Story Mode has been adapted specifically for the tvOS and this can now be played using the improved Remote app. The app adds many of the features currently seen on the dedicated Siri remote to an iPhone and iPad. In particular, it uses touch, voice control through Siri, and text can be entered on the keyboard. The app also uses the handset's accelerometer and gyroscope to more easily play games on the big screen. Apple is seemingly making a bigger push on gaming on its tvOS and has also added support for four game controllers. Elsewhere, Siri for tvOS has been improved and will now search YouTube on Apple TV. Siri already searches 650,000 movies and TV shows, but it can now additionally search by topic, such as "high-school comedies from the 1980s" - the example Cue used on stage. Other updates to tvOS included a single sign-on feature to help users sign into their cable networks and a "Dark Mode" to make Apple TV more comfortable to watch in a home theatre, for example. Single sign-on only applies to customers in the US, but from the autumn, users will only have to sign in once on an Apple TV to access video channels that are included as part of their pay-TV subscription. Once a user is signed into one network app, any other app on Apple TV from participating pay-TV providers will automatically log the user into all other supported apps requiring authentication and during the single sign-on process, customers can view a page of all the authenticated apps that a pay-TV provider offers to discover, download and enjoy video channels. The tvOS developer preview is available today for Developer Program members. The new tvOS will be available this autumn as a free software update for Apple TV.
